On-Page SEO guidelines for better page rank results

SEO TITLE

The length of your title should be between 50 and 70 characters. The focus keyword should be present at the beginning of the article. Don’t forget to brand it with your company/website/brand name!

PERMALINKS

This shouldn’t be too long and it should contain the keyword, possibly at the beginning of it. Try to avoid stop words such as articles. Customise permalinks in order to give a clear idea to the audience of where they will be directed to. Someone may not trust permalinks with no-sense numbers and letters.

META DESCRIPTION

The meta description is not only a ranking factor, but it also convinces the reader to open the link. Insert your keywords and try to describe the page in less than 160 characters. Include a call to action to optimize the click through-rate.

H1

H1 or heading one should be the title of your page. Many CMS auto set the title as H1.

IMAGES

For us, the best image size is 1200×630 for few reasons:

  • It meets the best image dimensions suggested by many social networks;
  • Your picture will be automatically resized to fit the ‘post container’ but it won’t be cropped.
  • If you are sharing a link, this size will show a large thumbnail in your post, instead of a small one.

H2

Headings are useful to guide the reader through the article and it will help the readability. It is also important that the focus keyword appear in at least one sub-heading.

PARAGRAPHS

Try to write short paragraphs. Each paragraph should be about 4-5 lines. Also, the first paragraphs of your content should include the focus keyword.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL LINKS

Links are important to connect your article to more sources. Internal links are a ranking factor, they show to the reach engine how well connected is your website. They are also really helpful if you want to drive the attentions on other pages, or you want to take advantage of one of your most popular pages to link to a less popular one. External links can help you to prove or to deepen some concepts.

ARTICLE LENGTH

We believe that a good article length is between 700 and 1000 words. Google loves long articles, but at the same time, they may discourage people from reading it when they realise that it is too long!

SOCIAL MEDIA BUTTONS

Never forget the social icons to share your content on social media, and also to lead people to your website!
